Our group’s idea for the performance revolved around WAR, SOLDIERS, CULT, METAL, CEREMONY. Jose, a week earlier, asked us to write for 5 minutes words that came up to our mind. We would read what we wrote and decide in a team which of these words we would like to use as a base for our idea for the performance next week(which happened yesterday, 25.05).
Besides the topic for the sound, we wanted to create a whole performance, an act. Me, Buki, Jiachen, and Yusuf were sitting in a circle in a center creating sound following a sound that would design Emmanuel as our “leader”. I was using a contact mic and for the sound source, I chose an old retro metallic kettle and stones, as I like the sound of objects touching metallic surfaces. What’s more as a part of an act we decided to put on black pillowcases, which I think was a great idea as it allowed me to create my personal space. Jack was in charge of recording sound and video, Cai designed an image we wanted to display on a wall, to create the right atmosphere and Jose was our DJ, producer. Overall I really enjoyed this performance as not only it was a great experience but also creating sound is a lot better way to learn than dry learning about recording etc.
